I am upgrading my desktop to dabble with gaming.  I've maxed on ram and next will upgrade the i3 cpu to i7.  Will the stock heatsink and fan be sufficient?  No overclocking involved.  Thanks for your thoughts.

You are welcome, @MuttCat!

You are correct that there is no mention of the stock heatsink and fan, but this is common on HP's OEM computers.  The OEM components are designed to work with the existing configuration as it comes from the factory.  Any upgrades are at the option of the owner.  My goal on the Forums is to point out the obvious and leave the decisions up to the member.  Upgrading the heatsink and fan certainly won't do any harm.

@MuttCat , welcome to the forum.

Here is the Motherboard Specifications page for the computer.  You should read the "Processor upgrade information" section before choosing an i7 processor.  The stock heatsink and fan should be adequate for gaming.  At least, I would start with them.  I never spend money that isn't necessary.

Thank you for responding and sharing the link.  I know the specs, and although the cpu options are identified, nothing indicates that the original heat sink and fan remain adequate.  Of course, this could mean that they are.  As you say, why spend money when not needed?  But heat sinks and fans can be had pretty cheap.
