HP Victus 15L TG02-0013W

I've purchased a HP Victus TG02-0013W desktop PC with AMD Ryzen 5600g, 8GB RAM and a RX 6400 gpu. I'd appreciate some help with following questions -

  1. I want to add a 16GB RAM stick for total of 24GB. Do I need DDR4-3200 CL22, what voltage? Do CL timings and specs need to match, from other posts I've read otherwise it will run slower?
  2. Can this model support 2x32GB, or 1x8GB + 1x32GB? its not clear from the specs page which says the max is 2x16GB?
  3. I want to remove the gpu and just use the built in iGpu since I do not play games. Can I still connect dual monitors since it looks like the back only has a single HDMI and no DisplayPort? I don't see any benefit of using the added gfx card in my case, correct?
  4. I have my own key for Windows 11 pro and want to do a fresh install. In the future how can I restore the default HP image along with its activated version of Windows, e.g. in case I want to sell it?
  5. how well is Linux supported on these? e.g. can I update bios in Linux? are there some utils only supported in Windows?
  6. Is the bios locked on this pc?
  7. How many hard drives can I add? from what I've read there are 2 sata connectors, are there 2 drive cages, and 2 power connectors?

Thanks

Hi @tehdude,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

1. Adding RAM to Your HP Victus TG02-0013W Desktop

Compatibility and Specifications

  • DDR4-3200 CL22: Yes, your HP Victus TG02-0013W uses DDR4-3200 RAM. The latency (CL22) should ideally match the existing RAM for optimal performance. Different latencies can work, but the system will operate at the speed of the slower module.
  • Voltage: Standard DDR4 RAM operates at 1.2V, which is likely what your current RAM uses. Ensure the new RAM stick also operates at this voltage.

RAM Configuration

  • 24GB Configuration (8GB + 16GB): This is possible but not recommended. Mixing different sizes and possibly different speeds/timings can result in suboptimal performance and stability issues. The system will default to the speed of the slower module.
  • Maximum Supported RAM: According to the official specifications, your model supports up to 2x16GB (32GB total). It's best to stay within this limit to ensure compatibility and stability.
  • 2x32GB or 1x8GB + 1x32GB: The specs suggest a maximum of 32GB (2x16GB). Installing 64GB (2x32GB) might not be supported and could cause issues.

2. Removing the GPU and Using Integrated Graphics

Dual Monitor Setup

  • Integrated Graphics: The AMD Ryzen 5600G has integrated Vega graphics, which should support dual monitors.

Fresh Install of Windows 11 Pro

  • Installation: Use your Windows 11 Pro key for a fresh install. Download the Windows 11 installation media from Microsoft and follow the installation instructions.

Linux Support

BIOS and Utilities

  • BIOS Updates: Check HP’s website for BIOS update tools that are compatible with Linux. Often, BIOS updates are Windows-only, but you can sometimes find Linux-compatible methods.

Adding Hard Drives

Internal Storage Expansion

  • SATA Connectors: Your motherboard likely has two SATA connectors.
  • Drive Bays: Verify the physical space inside the case. Typically, there are at least two 3.5" drive bays.

BIOS: Expect limited settings, typical for consumer HP PCs.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
