I want to upgrade the cpu for the hp touchsmart 520 1030a pc and gpu too if possible.
I know i have limited options but i really want to upgrade from what I currently have.
To which cpu can i upgrade to(which are compatible)? Do I need to upgrade both the gpu and cpu or can i upgrade only the cpu?
Currently the pc is running on AMD a6-3600 apu with radeon hd 6450.
Socket FM1

Hi:
Below is the link to the product specs for your PC, which has the processor upgrade info.
HP TouchSmart 520-1030a Desktop PC Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support
The only better processor that I could find that meets the specs is this one...
AMD A8-3800 (Liano) quad core
| 65W |
You don't need to replace the HD 6450 graphics card.

I would like to ask one more thing.
The official website classifies this pc as a desktop but the inside architecture is same like that of laptop.
Is it ok if i buy the a8 3800 intended for desktop or do i need to search for a one that is laptop based.
Is the cpu same for laptop and desktop if the socket is same.
I'm confused.

Hi:
When I look up the processor part number for your PC from the parts list at the link below...
This is what it looks like...
661192-001 - Hewlett-packard (HP) - A6-3600 2.1GHZ SKT FM1 CPU (65W) | Impact Computers
Looks like a Desktop-type processor to me.
In any event you want to buy one with the FM1 socket type.
The sockets would not be the same for a notebook or desktop processor.
