Hi, i have a hp omen obelisk model number 875-0084. I was wondering what my motherboard’s cpu compatibility would be. As of now it has a i7-9700 that just went out on me. Instead of replacing it with another i was wondering if it would be compatible with an i7-9700k. Pls i need help ive been out of a gaming pc for quite some time now but cant find info anywhere about cpu compatibility. Thank you guys for any help!

I double checked: ANY OMEN by HP Obelisk Desktop 875-0xxx as fitted with an Edoras (SSID: 84FD) motherboard IS compatible with all Intel Core 8th and 9th gen processors, including "K" processors.
Please type in: system information in your lower search bar, and then click on the System Information app.
Next, look to the right of: "BaseBoard Product", where it should say: "84FD", which is the identifier for an Edoras motherboard.
First, please doublecheck that you got the most recent BIOS version: F.35 Rev.A released on December 29, 2023. You can find it here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/omen-by-hp-obelisk-desktop-pc-875-0000/23302709. For reasons only known to HP, you can only find this BIOS download under Windows 10, not Windows 11.
You can verify what BIOS version you got also in System Information to the right of "BIOS Version/Date".
Next, verify CPU Installation: doublecheck that your i5-9600K is properly seated in the socket, and inspect the socket pins for any damage.
Next, Reset CMOS: clearing the CMOS can help reset any incorrect settings that might be preventing the system from booting.
Check the Beep Codes! Please identify the pattern of the beep code(s). HP typically uses specific beep codes to indicate hardware issues, such as RAM or CPU-related problems.
And last but not least: inspect the motherboard power delivery: ensure the CPU power cable (4-pin) is securely connected.

Welcome to our HP Community forum!
Yes, your OMEN by HP Obelisk Desktop 875-0084 (4NN70AA) as fitted with the EdorasDF motherboard (SSID: 84FD) is indeed compatible with all 8th and 9th gen Intel Core K/KF processors, such as this HP OMEN by HP Obelisk Desktop 875-0xxx user showed: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/68590250.
Since these "K" processors run hotter, you should seriously consider upgrading your CPU heatsink, and, if you can, install an additional case cooling fan to improve the airflow through your desktop.

I recently upgraded older omen from i7-7700 to i7-7700K. it works. One thing you should look for tho is the cooler and temperatures with new cpu. Thanks to the pathetic cooler, the new CPU now runs at 100°c. And I'm not sure if there are any cpu cooler options that will fit the motherboard mount. So make sure you either have enough thermal overhead or cooler upgrade options first.

From further research i believe my motherboard is not compatible with k version cpu. It only compatible with 9th gen non k cpu. Which sucks bc i went out and got a i5-9600k and it the pc just beeps. No display or anything, no beeping before, no beeping with i7-9700 but still no display and no peripherals working. Im pretty disappointed as i cannot return the i5 which sucks

Here is my exact model number of my pc 875_0084 ser# 2MO9363092. Back of the mobo says 17582-1 Rev. A 348. 0c504. 0011. Did i possibly get a faulty cpu or is it just not compatible with k variant cpu’s? Im at loss. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me btw, thank you!
