Hi all,
I am looking for a video or step by step instructions on how to add an additional SSD to my Omen Obelisk 875. It came with a 256gb and I want to add a 1TB drive. I purchased the Samsung 870 EVO (2.5" SATA) but I am not sure where / how to add it.
Do I need to purchase an adapter for the second bay? And what do I connect to the new drive? Something like this from Amazon? ***
Sorry, not very techie but want to do this myself if possible.

Its specs
It has 256 GB PCIe NVMe TLC M.2 Solid State + 2TB HDD now. Its motherboard has spare SATA port for secondary HDD that means you can add 1 more SATA HDD to it.
In your case you wish to ass a Samsung 2.5"SSD therefore you need a caddy such as
https://www.pccasegear.com/products/38897/orico-2-5-to-3-5in-hard-drive-caddy
You also need some screws to secure new drive to its bay. Note: please check the SATA cable to make sure it is long enough.
Regards.

Welcome to our HP User Forum!
Actually, what would be preferable speaking of using a drive caddy, is the HP Hard Drive Caddy made for the OMEN By HP Obelisk Desktop 875-0024, p/n: L35390-001, which HP has in stock here: https://partsurfer.hp.com/partsurfer?searchtext=L35390-001.
You can watch the drive installation here (timestamp: 01:53): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sm9q-2lcbgg&ab_channel=HPSupport.

Thanks @NonSequitur777
So follow up question. I know I connect the spare SATA cable to the new drive once it is in place. Does it also need a power source? (I assume so but don't remember seeing a cable for that in the rig)

In addition to a SATA data cable, which looks like this:
Your drive needs a SATA female 15-pin power connector to power your HHD or SSD. If none are available, get a SATA 15-pin power splitter cable such as this one:

I am going to get some screws and the caddy. Wish me luck!
hi @petemac65
have you opened and checked, before buying, it is possible that all that is missing is just the sata data connector and and the 2.5 adapter as mentioned by @banhien
in any case I had the same type of box in hand and the hdd slot was operational
I don't remember if there was the second sata power supply, it seems to me so, but not sure, often concealed
you can add a sata ssd , I did it on my pc because the M2 ssd is too small, because no choice at this time, but it is more advantageous to have a larger M2 ssd, much faster than sata
