Victus by HP 15L Gaming Desktop PC TG02-0000a (4H509AV)
Ubuntu LTS

On the back of the desktop PC, next to the HDMI socket there is another socket. What is it? It doesn't look like an HDMI. Also at the top left is a cover labelled HDMI and there is indeed an HDMI socket underneath. Is that functional? What is the cover in the very top left of the back, screwed on with 2 Philips screws? Is it a VGA socket and is that functional?

Hi @trigeek,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To connect another monitor to your Victus by HP 15L Gaming Desktop, you need to identify the available video output ports on the back of your PC. Here's a guide to help you understand the different sockets.

Identifying the Ports:

HDMI Socket:

  • Main HDMI: This is the standard port used to connect monitors or TVs. You mentioned there is an HDMI socket next to another socket. This should work for an additional monitor.
  • Covered HDMI at the Top Left: Some desktops come with integrated graphics ports that are disabled if you have a dedicated graphics card. The covered HDMI might belong to the integrated graphics. If you have a dedicated GPU (Graphics Processing Unit), use the HDMI ports on the GPU instead.

Other Socket Next to HDMI:

  • This could be a DisplayPort (DP). DisplayPorts are commonly used for monitors and provide high-resolution and high-refresh-rate video signals. They look similar to HDMI but have one side that is slanted.

Top Left Cover with 2 Philips Screws:

  • This cover likely conceals an integrated graphics port (e.g., another HDMI or VGA). However, if you have a dedicated GPU, these integrated ports might be disabled and not functional.

Connecting Additional Monitors:

Check Your Dedicated GPU Ports:

  • Look for the HDMI and DisplayPort outputs on your dedicated graphics card. These are typically positioned lower on the back of your PC case, closer to the expansion slots.

Use Appropriate Cables:

  • HDMI Cable: For the HDMI port.
  • DisplayPort Cable: For the DisplayPort.
  • If your monitor only has VGA input, you may need an adapter (e.g., HDMI to VGA or DP to VGA).

Connect and Configure:

  • Connect your second monitor to the available port on your GPU using the appropriate cable.
  • Turn on your monitor and your PC.
  • Right-click on the desktop, select Display settings, and configure your monitor arrangement.

Verifying Port Functionality:

  • Integrated Graphics Ports:
    • If the covered port in the top left is for integrated graphics, ensure your BIOS settings are not disabling the integrated GPU if you plan to use it. However, using the dedicated GPU ports is recommended for better performance.

VGA Port:

  • The cover with two Philips screws is unlikely to be a VGA port. VGA ports are typically blue and have 15 pins arranged in three rows of five. Modern gaming desktops usually don't include VGA ports as they are outdated compared to HDMI and DisplayPort.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
