The 27ER has an auto-input mode. I have two computers connected to the monitor, one to VGA and the other to HDMI. If I'm in VGA and the HDMI is active the input always switches to HDMI. The algo does not seem to detect activty in the video signal only the presence of a video signal. If I start using the computer with VGA video I would hope that the monitor would detect this and switch to VGA but it just stays on HDMI. So if both inputs have active video signals what is auto-input supposed to do?

Try this, as it does require a default monitor.
The monitor automatically scans the signal inputs for an active input and uses that input for the display. If two inputs are active, the monitor will display the default input source. If the default source is not an active input, then the monitor displays the other input if it is active. You can change the default source in the OSD by pressing the Menu button and selecting Source Control > Default Source

On my HP 27ER OSD there is a menu se;lection "Input Control" in which I find HDMI1, HDMI2, VGA and Auto-Switch Input. I see no choice of Default Source. It looks like the HDMI inputs are always the default
If I can, in fact, choose VGA as the default somehow, would that mean if VGA became active while HDMI was active, the monitor would switch to VGA? This is what I'm hoping.

That is all the information I could find on the OSD controls. Hopefully someone has experience.
