I can't find anything online. Some people say I've got an m.2 (which I don't) and some people say I have 3 sata slots. I want to add a 2.5 ssd but want to know if and how to install it in a second slot if possible.

Edit: opening up the case reveals 4 SATA cable connectors and (I think) another 3.5" mount and a 2.5" mount. The 2.5" I'm almost positive is below the pre-installed HDD. I'm less confident about the other 3.5". There may or may not be another mount beneath the disc drive.

The spec for your system does not provide info about m.2 or sata devices but looking up the motherboard  on eBay shows 4 SATA connectors

Short answer: one optical drive and 3 hard drives assuming you can find space for them and be able to route the wiring

@mmese -- is this your computer: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03846648

That document states:

Bays:

  • Media card reader
  • Slim optical disc drive
  • 3.5-inch internal storage drive
  • 2.5-inch internal storage drive

So, which of those latter 2 bays are currently occupied?

If the 3.5-inch bay is empty, you could add a 2.5-inch SSD, mounted in a 2.5-to-3.5 tray.

Or, you could remove the optical drive, and "jerry-rig" that bay, to hold a SSD in place.
