Hi @Ralphxyz,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the DVD drive is not showing up in "This PC" on your HP Pavilion Desktop, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.
- Check physical connections: Ensure that the DVD drive is properly connected to your computer. Make sure the power cable and data cable (SATA or IDE) are securely plugged into the drive and the motherboard.
- Check Device Manager: Right-click on the Start menu and select "Device Manager." Look for the DVD/CD-ROM drives category. If you see any yellow exclamation marks or red X marks next to the DVD drive, there may be a driver issue.
- Update drivers: Right-click on the DVD drive in Device Manager and select "Update driver." Follow the on-screen instructions to search for and install any available driver updates.
- Restart your computer: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve hardware detection issues.
- Check BIOS settings: Restart your computer and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings. Ensure that the DVD drive is recognized by the system. If it's not listed in the BIOS, there may be a hardware problem.
- Check power: Ensure that the DVD drive is receiving power. You can try connecting it to a different power connector from your power supply.
- Check for conflicts: Sometimes, other software or hardware can conflict with the DVD drive. Try unplugging any unnecessary peripherals and see if the drive appears.
- Check for physical damage: If none of the above steps work, there may be physical damage to the DVD drive itself. In this case, you may need to replace the drive.
If you're still unable to access the DVD drive after trying these steps, it's possible that there's a hardware issue with the drive or the motherboard's SATA/IDE port.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
