Hi @am202020,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To connect your HP USB External DVDRW Drive (GP70N) to your MacBook, follow these steps.
Check Compatibility
- Ensure your MacBook has a USB-A port or a compatible adapter (e.g., USB-C to USB-A) if your MacBook only has USB-C ports.
Connect the Drive
- Plug the USB cable of the DVDRW drive into the MacBook's USB port or the adapter.
- Ensure the connection is firm, and the drive is receiving power (a light or sound may indicate activity).
Confirm Detection
- Once connected, the MacBook should automatically recognize the drive.
- Open Finder, and look for the external drive in the left-hand panel under "Devices."
- If it doesn’t appear, try unplugging and reconnecting the drive.
- Test the drive on another computer to ensure it's functional.
Install Necessary Software
- No additional drivers are required for macOS to recognize the drive.
- If you're planning to watch DVDs, ensure you have a DVD player application installed, such as:
- Apple's DVD Player (pre-installed on macOS for compatible models).
- VLC Media Player (free and supports various formats).
Troubleshooting Tips
- If the drive isn't detected:
- Ensure the USB port or adapter is functional.
- Restart your MacBook with the drive connected.
- Test with a different USB cable if possible.
- If you're using a MacBook with macOS Ventura or later, ensure the system settings do not block USB devices:
- Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > USB Devices and check permissions.
Using the Drive
- Insert a DVD or CD, and it should mount automatically on the desktop or in Finder.
- If you're burning discs, you can use macOS's built-in Disk Utility or third-party apps like Burn.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
