Hello! I’m getting into overclocking my i7-6700K using Intel XTU but my stock temps are already pretty bad under full load (almost 90c). I already repasted my cpu and that didn’t help much so now I’m looking into manually controlling my cpu fan speeds to see if I can do anything there and I’m also willing to replace my current CPU air cooler with a better one. HOWEVER, there is no option to control the cpu fan speed in the BIOS so I don’t want to upgrade my air cooler if I won’t have any control over the fan speed. I can only monitor what the current CPU fan speed and the system fan speed is in the BIOS but I can’t change them myself. Using software like Fan Control also has not worked since it doesn’t detect the CPU fan. (I’m also looking into adding more case fans for better airflow but again, I don’t want to do this if I won’t have any manual control over my system case fan speeds). Is there a way for me to control my CPU fan speeds?
BeigeLion had the same issue as me and at the end of the forum I see he resolved it with a “good piece of software” but he makes no mention of what that software is 😞

Hi
The CPU cooler (air or liquid) must be connected either to the CPU fan header (air) or the pump fan header (liquid) on the MB.
Your PC's BIOS does not provide fan or pump control options.
You can install a CPU AIO liquid cooler which requires a USB 2.0 connection to communicate with pump and fan controller software provided by the AIO CPU liquid cooler manufacturer. Your MB has two USB 2.0 headers. Check the following MB image:
And you may need an available SATA connection for power. This requirement depends upon the liquid cooler you decide to purchase.
You may have to sacrifice something if both USB 2.0 ports are occupied.
Adding additional case fans will require open fan headers on the MB or fan splitters to power additional fans. Additional fans will run at speeds baked into the MB and cannot be modified.
Or purchase a fan controller which may require SATA power and a possible additional USB 2.0 connection and software to control fan speeds. It is really tough to do this stuff on older MBs having limited fan headers and no fan speed control in the BIOS.
