HP Pavilion 500-214
Microsoft Windows XP (64-bit)

I have a 2.5 SSD SanDisk Ultra II but have no idea how to correctly install as an additional internal drive in my HP Pavilion 500-214 Desktop PC. I have no computer nor technical skills and do not know how to properly proceed or even how to place this inside the computer. Can anyone help?

This is the best I can do.

Click on Internal then 2.5 in.

Your motherboard should be "Jasmine"

@PaulDM,

What is the current OS.  WIN 8 or 10 ?

Here is how to get into the case, and perform a visual.  Your looking for the hard drive, and whether it has a multiple drive bay, or it's attached at a single point on the frame.

The use of a 2.5" drive does require an adapter tray, and a data and power cable.  Likely you will find a spare power lead hanging off the power supply.  That answers the basic inquiry.

Now, what are you really trying to do.  What size in GB is this SanDisk Ultra II.

This system is feedback driven thru Solution and Kudo flags. It's the only means of knowing if you have been served. Please click Accept as Solution, if your problem is solved. To say THANK YOU, press the "thumbs up symbol" to render a KUDO. You can render both Solution and KUDO..

I was unable to access the links you provided for some reason, but I did eventually find online an image of a Jasmine motherboard. I confirmed each noticeable piece and their placements and can confirm it has the exact layout of the image I saw.

I believe it is OS 8, at least that is what my registered product on this website states. The current hard drive is attached at a singular point exactly as seen in the pictures in your “how to get into the case” link. I have bought a Rosewill 3.5 to 2.5 Bracket and the data cable and there are two power supply cables available (labeled as P5 and P4). However, I don’t understand where nor how to attach the hard drive into the bracket and don’t see where the bracket can be attached inside the computer. I am also unsure if I should plug the data cable into the motherboard on SATA 1 or SATA 3 which are the only two available. SATA 2 is connected to the CD drive and SATA 0 is connected to the original hard drive.

The SSD I bought is only 500GB. I am a music and video producer, creating all my music from samples which involves sometimes upwards of 200 samples for three minutes. I was having major issues with the computer lagging when I would hit playback in the program and often times the program would crash and a few times I lost the entire program file I had spent months producing. A tech friend suggested adding a certain memory card which I bought and already installed but do not recall what kind it was other than I bought it from Crucial and it was the highest and best recommended by them for this specific computer. He likewise suggested adding an additional hard drive, specifically an SSD, which I have purchased and am attempting to install now hence my question and need for guidance.

overall, the goal is to not have the computer overloaded to the point that my programs lag, crash or even lose another hard worked on file again.

@PaulDM

Look at how your 3.5" HDD is installed.

The 2.5" drive is installed the same way.

Take the 2.5" drive and line it up with the mounting holes just above the 3.5" drive.

It looks like there may only be 2 screw mounts.

Do not try using the HDD adapter just the bare 2.5" drive.

Should the data cable be plugged into SATA 1, SATA 3, or does it make no difference?

@PaulDM

There is no difference, use either one.

So I installed it, turned on the computer and ran SanDisk’s SSD Dashboard and it said not found. I have taken the computer back apart and everything is attached, so now I am confused as to why.

Figured it out. Read on another forum that people could see it in BIOS but not disk management. Suggestion was to run a troubleshoot. That fixed it! Thanks all!
