HP ENVY Desktop PC TE01-4000i RCTO Base Model

How to install external power switch on HP ENVY Desktop PC TE01-4000i RCTO ?

HP Envy Desktop TE01-4000 PC

Product Number: 6V9T7AV

Removed product serial number.

This looks like it pertains to my Desktop PC Motherboard but no detailed Manual with pictures and names for parts etc.

System Board

  • HP name: RenoR

  • SSID: 8B3B

I already tried searching for the MotherBoard Manual here:

https://support.hp.com/vn-en/computer

I went to the link above and scrolled down to where it says, "Identify your computer for manuals and specific product information." Then I entered in my product ID. Couldn't find anything.

Here is the power button I'm wanting to install on this Computer.

The supplied wiring diagram that came with this Power Switch is above. But this doesn't help with this HP Desktop I'm trying to install this Power Button Switch on, because HP changed the MotherBoard pins to not look like this anymore.

Here is a picture of the MotherBoard in our Computer:

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer. 🙂

Welcome to the HP Forum.

Your PC's: MB, power supply, and case are proprietary.

The front panel: power, LEDs, Mic and Headphone jacks, and USB are integrated in the MB.

It is not possible to use an external power switch on the MB installed in your PC.

Your PC may have a MB problem if the chassis power button is not working. The PC's startup problem may be unrelated to the power button.

Is the PC's front bezel properly attached to the chassis? Misalignment of the front bezel to the chassis could cause a power button problem.

Hi, Thank you for your reply.

You mentioned, "front panel power is integrated in the mother board." So there is no cables, connectors, or pins to connect a different power switch to.

Why are manufactures now doing this? Just think if that power switch broke or stopped working then no external power switch could be used to by pass this one. The computer would need to be sent in for service to have a new power switch soldiered to the mother board. Sad.

Thank you again for your reply.

My pleasure.

I don't know why many OEM PC manufacturers (Dell, HP, Lenovo) do this.

The HP Omen PCs have separate: power button and LED connections to the MB which would allow using an external power button.
