Having a very difficult time trying to remove hard drive from my 'dead' 13 y-o HP Pavilion p6640f Desktop without totally pulling everything out. Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi @jsturni1

I'm going down memory lane but I had a HP 560z back in 2011 or 2012.

The 560z and the p6640f share the same case.

The HDD cage is located at the bottom front of the case. There is a latch or a button at the back of the drive cage to release the cage from the case. Its been a long time; I think the drive cage slides up to release the cage from the chassis while depressing the latch.

There might be a couple of screws to remove which secure the cage to the front of the chassis.

Removing this drive cage is a challenge.

Disconnect the SATA power and SATA data cables. depress the latch. The drive cage should slide out.

Regards

Hello there.

Thanks for the lead and yes, your memory served you correctly.

Knowing what to do made the process go smoothly.
