Product: Pavilion 790-0050xt CTO
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi i am currently looking to upgrade my cpu from an i5-8400cpu 2.80hz Fclga 1151

to an i7. my mother board is from hp and the product number is 844c if anyone could help me with what type of i7 i need that would be a great help

Here is the Motherboard Specifications page: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-gaming-desktop-pc-790-0000i/20395823/model/22458216...

 

If you look at the section titled "Processor upgrade information" there is a list of compatible processors.  These have been fully tested to assure they are compatible.  Any other processors will most likely not work.
