Yes, you can type French accents using Alt codes, which require the Num Lock key to be turned ON. Here's how:
1. Finding the Num Lock key:
On many HP All-in-One keyboards, especially compact ones, the Num Lock (NumLk) key is typically located on the top-right of the keyboard or embedded as a secondary function (often shared with another key like Insert or a number key).
Look for a key labeled NumLk, Num Lock, or a small icon with a lock and a number "1" or "9".
If you don’t see a physical Num Lock key, try these:
Press Fn + NumLk (if labeled).
Use On-Screen Keyboard to toggle Num Lock:
Press Windows key → type On-Screen Keyboard → open it.
Click the "Options" key → check "Turn on numeric keypad".
Use the on-screen Num Lock and numeric keypad to enter accent codes.
🇫🇷 2. Typing French accents using Alt codes:
Hold down the Alt key and type the number on the numeric keypad (not the number row):
à | Alt + 133 |
â | Alt + 131 |
ç | Alt + 135 |
é | Alt + 130 |
è | Alt + 138 |
ê | Alt + 136 |
ë | Alt + 137 |
î | Alt + 140 |
ï | Alt + 139 |
ô | Alt + 147 |
ù | Alt + 151 |
û | Alt + 150 |
ü | Alt + 129 |
œ | Alt + 0156 |
Æ | Alt + 146 |
Optional tip: Switch to French keyboard layout (AZERTY):
If you're typing a lot in French:
Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language > Add a language
Choose French (France) and add the keyboard layout you prefer.
You can toggle between layouts using Win + Spacebar.
