OMEN by HP 40L Gaming Desktop PC GT21-1000i RCTO Base Model

The left side glass panel needs to be easily unlocked from under the front glass fan panel and a Torx T-15 bit to drop the screw. The right metal panel might already be dropped (unlocked).

Once the front glass fan cover is removed, remove the grid panel that covers the fans and look at the top left and right corners on the chassis. You'll see the two screws (locked is up, unlocked is down). Using the Torx T-15 bit, loosen the left-side screw for the glass panel (a flexible screwdriver works the best) and it will drop. Follow the same procedure for the right side if it isn't already unlocked. Lastly, tighten the screw(s) in-place.

The left glass panel door will now release when pressing the button on the top of the chassis. After removing the fan's glass panel and grid coverAfter removing the fan's glass panel and grid coverThe lock/unlock screws are in the top left & right corners of the chassisThe lock/unlock screws are in the top left & right corners of the chassis20240518_134909.jpgA flexible screwdriver extension works the bestA flexible screwdriver extension works the bestTorx T-15 bitTorx T-15 bit

Hi @BonJo,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Here's a step-by-step guide to unlocking and removing the left-side glass panel on the OMEN by HP 40L Gaming Desktop PC.

Prepare Your Tools:

  • Ensure you have a Torx T-15 bit screwdriver.
  • A flexible screwdriver is recommended for easier access.

Access the Front Glass Fan Panel:

  • First, you need to remove the front glass fan cover. This cover is typically held in place by clips or screws. Carefully detach or unscrew this cover to expose the fan area.

Remove the Grid Panel:

  • Behind the front glass fan cover, there is a grid panel covering the fans. Remove this grid panel to gain access to the chassis screws.

Locate the Screws:

  • Look at the top left and right corners of the chassis behind the grid panel. You will see two screws, one for each side panel.
  • The screws control the locking mechanism for the side panels (locked position is up, unlocked position is down).

Loosen the Left-Side Screw:

  • Using the Torx T-15 bit, loosen the screw on the left side. If you find it difficult to reach, use a flexible screwdriver.
  • Loosen the screw until the locking mechanism drops, unlocking the left-side glass panel.

Check the Right-Side Panel:

  • If the right-side metal panel is already unlocked, you can skip this step.
  • If not, follow the same procedure to loosen the screw and unlock the right-side panel.

Secure the Screws:

  • After unlocking the panels, ensure the screws are tightened in place to secure the panels and prevent any movement.

Release the Left Glass Panel Door:

  • Once the left-side screw is loosened and the panel is unlocked, press the release button on the top of the chassis.
  • The left glass panel door should now open easily.

By following these steps, you should be able to unlock and remove the left-side glass panel on your OMEN by HP 40L Gaming Desktop PC for maintenance or upgrades.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Alden4,

As you may have noticed, I already found my own solution for unlocking my new OMEN 40L three days before you posted your reply.

After giving up looking for instructions on the HP Community, I found the locking/unlocking screws myself when I opened the front fan cover panels. I posted photos and instructions on May 18, 2024 to hopefully help others to easily unlock their cases more quickly.

What happens when this method does not work?  I have the 54LGT22-1470se and it will not release the window.

Heyguy8409,

I don't see that HP makes a 54L model, but there is a 45L model.

Did you follow my instructions & photos instead of ALDEN4's?

Here are my instructions:

The left side glass panel needs to be easily unlocked from under the front glass fan panel using a Torx T-15 bit to drop the screw. The right metal panel screw might already be dropped (unlocked).

Once the front glass fan cover is removed, remove the grid panel that covers the fans and look at the top left and right corners on the chassis. You'll see the two screws (locked is up, unlocked is down). Using the Torx T-15 bit, loosen the left-side screw for the left glass panel (a flexible screwdriver works the best) and it will drop. Follow the same procedure for the right side if it isn't already unlocked. Lastly, tighten the screw(s) in-place.

The Left side glass panel door will now release when pressing down on the button on top of the chassis above the left  side panel. The Right side panel has the same button above it at the top of the chassis.

After removing the FRONT glass panel and grid cover in front of the fans, you'll see the screws on the top left & right corners. Loosen the screw so it drops to the UNLOCKED position, then tighten the screw.

Remember: the lock/unlock screws are in the FRONT top left & right corners of the chassis behind both the front glass panel and the removeable grid in front of the fans:
