e9120y
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Rebuilding  e9120y with new SSD,  new HDD,  new mobo battery,  new nvidia 1050 card,  new Windows 10 OS.  Everything works fine with the original 8gb  RAM but will not accept RAM upgrade to 16gb....black screen and one short beep,  one long beep.

Next I'm going to try  4 hynnix (the original manufacturer) sticks  but maybe I need to update the BIOS for the new RAM sticks?....also do I need to update the BIOS for the new GPU?

Where can I find a BIOS update for the M2N78-LA motherboard?

Greetings,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

Before looking at the RAM issue you have some other upgrade issues to solve.

Your PC's last BIOS update was made available by HP in 2010. The BIOS version is 5.08. There are no other BIOS updates available for your PC.

This means your PC cannot support newer graphics cards (Nvidia 700, 900, 1000, or 2000 series GPUs) which requires a UEFI BIOS.

Are you now running Windows 10 on this PC?  Your PC is close to nine years old. HP only supported Windows Vista and Windows 7 on your PC. All needed hardware drivers have to be provided by Microsoft.

MSI made one 750 Ti and some AMD GPUs that could run on a Legacy or UEFI BIOS (Link).

Sapphire made some AMD series X GPUs that could also run on Legacy or a UEFI BIOS (Link).

You will probably have to upgrade the PSU if you go with any of the above GPUs.

I would go to Crucial Memory (Link) to get compatible memory for your rig.

You might want to think about building a new system or buying a new HP PC.

Regards
