How to upgrade RAM

hello i am looking to upgrade the ram for my PC. Do i need the exact same brand RAM as the one already in the PC

A really good question -and you're absolutely right to check before upgrading.

For best stability and performance, it's always recommended to use identical RAM modules -same brand, model, speed, capacity, and timings -as the one already installed in your HP ENVY 34-c1000 All-in-One.

Matching modules ensure the system runs in dual-channel mode (and even in dual-rank mode) and avoids compatibility issues.

That said, many users successfully mix similar RAM sticks (same DDR generation and speed rating), but doing so can sometimes cause the system to default to the slower module's speed or looser timings.

If you want guaranteed compatibility, you can:

• Check your current RAM specs in Task Manager → Performance → Memory or with a tool like CPU-Z,

• Then match those exact specs, or

• Replace both modules with a new matched 2-stick kit from a reliable brand such as Crucial or Kingston.

So my system has got 2 8GB 5600 SODIMM ram from samsung. but the speed on the task manager is 4000.

Should i get 2 identical rams from samsung for 8GB 5600 to match what i have and get 4*8= 32 GB

or can i get 2 X 16GB or 32 GB crucial RAM from another supplier like crucial 5600 speed?

According to the specs, your HP ENVY 34 inch All-in-One Desktop PC 34-c1000 as fitted with the Angel motherboard (SSID: 8928) can, quote: "Supports up to PC4-32000 (DDR5-4000) for 32 GB", though other sources, such as Crucial, says your AIO can be fitted with up to 4x16GB of DDR5 PC5-38400, 4800 MHz, Non-ECC, SODIMM, 262-pin RAM sticks.

Based on actual User data, HP apparently limits the RAM speed to 4000 MHz.  Meaning, there is no need to buy DDR5 5600 MHz RAM, as your system will "bridge" (downclock) the RAM speed to 4000 MHz anyway. Whatever you do, avoid mixing RAM and 'stick' with identical RAM (same brand, model, speed, timings and capacity).

Yes, you can add two identical (2x8GB) Samsung RAM sticks in your AIO, and yes, you could also use 2x16GB RAM such as Crucial or other options, such as Samsung M425R2GA3BB0-CQKOL or Hynix HMCG78AEBSA095N.

hi i got the same samsung 8GB 5600 ram and the system still says memory not suitable...

Thank you for the follow-up, and you did exactly the right thing by choosing identical-looking Samsung DDR5 5600 SODIMMs.

Unfortunately, HP systems -among them the Envy 34 AIO series -can be very picky about memory SPD tables (the data that tells the BIOS what timings and voltages to use). Even modules with the same part number may have a different revision or JEDEC profile that the system firmware flags as "not suitable".

Here's what you can try:

1. Confirm exact part number: Look at the tiny white label on both Samsung modules. Make sure they match exactly — every letter and digit. For example, M425R1GB4BB0-CQKOL vs. M425R1GB4BB0-CQKOY may look the same but have different SPD programming.

2. Try both modules alone: Boot with only the new stick installed in each slot, one at a time. If the system reports the same "not suitable" message even with one stick, the firmware doesn't like that revision.

3. Mix test: If each stick works alone but not together, the issue is dual-channel SPD mismatch -meaning, HP's BIOS can be quite strict about that.

4. Solution: The most reliable fix is to replace both modules with a matched 2-stick kit from Crucial, Kingston, or Samsung (sold as a pair, e.g., Crucial DDR5-4800 SODIMM Kit 32 GB (2 × 16 GB) CT2K16G48C40S5). HP users have reported full compatibility with those kits even though they're rated for 4800 MHz -your system will still run them at 4000 MHz.

Anyways, sadly, HP's "memory not suitable" message usually isn't about defective RAM -it's the BIOS rejecting a non-whitelisted or unmatched SPD table.
