Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently ran out of SSD storage on my PC (omen 30L GT13-0024). I bought a PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD. Does the motherboard support this type of storage, or will I need to upgrade my motherboard? If I do need to upgrade my motherboard, what do you recommend?

@bambi2002,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Yes, an M.2 NVMe Gen4 SSD is compatible with your OMEN 30L GT13-0024 Desktop PC, as Gen4's are backward compatible with your desktop's Gen3 M.2 slot(s). However, you won't get Gen4 speeds, though.

It appears that the standard M.2 SSD fitted on your Moria3 motherboard (SSID: 87C3) is the Western Digital SN530 SDBPNPZ-256G-1006 (M.2 Gen3 x4 SSD). Performance of these M.2's are, well, average. Meh.

On the other hand, high-performance M.2 drives such as the Western Digital Black SN750 M.2 NVMe Gen3 2TB SSD as seen in this Omen 30L GT13-0024, are red-hot (figuratively speaking): https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/47634121

Or a Samsung 980 NVMe PCIe M.2 1TB SSDhttps://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/50853159

Point I wanted to make is that higher-end Gen3 M.2 NVMe SSD performances are holding their own.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,
