I have an HP 15 Pavilion and my Logitech unifying mouse and keyboard set used to work fine until my laptop stopped recognizing them, so I bought a wired mouse, but it didn’t recognize that either. I don’t know what to do, my older HP recognizes them fine.

Hi @SimoneRoseKahn,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The issue with your HP 15 Pavilion laptop not recognizing USB devices such as a Logitech unifying receiver or a wired mouse could be due to several potential causes, including hardware problems, driver issues, or system settings. Here's a step-by-step troubleshooting guide.
Test the USB Ports
- Try Different Ports: Test all USB ports on your laptop. Sometimes, specific ports might fail while others work.
- Check for Physical Damage: Inspect the USB ports for any visible damage or debris that might be obstructing a proper connection.
Check the Devices on Another Computer
- Test the Devices: Verify that the unifying receiver, mouse, and keyboard work on another computer to rule out any device-specific issues.
Update USB and Device Drivers
Update Drivers:
- Open Device Manager (Press Win + X > Select Device Manager).
- Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers and Mice and other pointing devices.
- Right-click on each entry and select Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
Reinstall Drivers: If updates don't work, uninstall the USB root hub and mouse drivers:
- In Device Manager, right-click the device under Universal Serial Bus controllers or Mice and other pointing devices.
- Select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop, and Windows should reinstall the drivers automatically.
Check USB Power Settings
Disable USB Selective Suspend:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings for your active power plan.
- Click Change advanced power settings.
- Expand USB settings > USB selective suspend setting.
- Set it to Disabled.
Disable USB Power Management:
- In Device Manager, expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Right-click on each USB Root Hub, select Properties.
- Go to the Power Management tab, and uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

Run Windows Troubleshooter
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
- Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter and follow the prompts.
Check BIOS/UEFI Settings
- Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI (usually by pressing Esc, F2, F10, or Del during startup).
- Check if USB ports are enabled in the settings.
Update BIOS
- Visit the HP support website for your laptop model, download the latest BIOS update, and follow the instructions provided to update the BIOS.
Try a Clean Boot
- Perform a clean boot to rule out software conflicts:
- Press Win + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
- Under the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
- Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager. Disable all startup items.
- Restart your laptop and test the USB devices.
Hardware Diagnostics
- Use the built-in HP Hardware Diagnostics tool:
- Turn off your laptop.
- Turn it on and repeatedly press F2 during startup.
- Select Component Tests > USB Port to check for issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
