Hp 8100 SFF

Hello, I'm making this desktop into a gaming beast by upgrading certain componets such as SSD, Ram, and a graphics card. I allready hap a LP Gtx 1050 2gb graphics card in, but I need some more storage and a faster boot up time. i'm planning on using the power connector that not being used under the Cd/rom drive to use for power for a 500gb ssd. My pc has 400 gb of used storage 500 left. What SSD would work and what's would be better. Cloning, or restoring and installing everything again on the ssd. https://www.amazon.com/HP-8100-Processor-Professional-Refurbished/dp/B01G49FYGK/ref=sr_1_1?s=electro... Thats the link to were I bought the pc and just add on a Gtx 1050 lp and that my rig.

@BudgetEveryting, welcome to the forum.

Here is the Product Specifications page for the computer.  You should check the manufacturer's website to assure that the 240W power supply unit (PSU) will have enough wattage for the GTX 1050.

As for the SSD, I like Samsung.  I have an EVO 840 that has been installed in two different HP gaming computers.  It works great without any changes to the BIOS.  You can buy an EVO 850 500 GB SSD for a reasonable price.  You will need a 3.5" adapter for the 2.5" SSD.

The best way to install the SSD is by leaving the HDD in place and connecting the SSD to another SATA port on the motherboard.  Install Samsung's Data Migration software on the HDD and run it.  It will ask for the Target drive and you will choose the SSD.  Once the HDD has been cloned to the SSD, you can disconnect the HDD and boot to the SSD.  You can use Samsung's Magician software to tweak the SSD for peak performance.

Here is the Hardware Reference Guide for the computer.  It has all of the information that you need to work on the computer.

Ok so the motherboard on this comp is BTX correct? if so I'm trying to upgrade the case but BTX died off back in 2006. So what I'm planning on doing is. new MotherBoard And case that can support my current ram, cpu, gpu, psu, and my dvd/rom drive. And for the ssd upgrade I want to keep the 1tb sata 2 hard drive and add a 500gb ssd to increase startup and application performance. This is my second post.

I would love to make a cheap gaming pc. I allready have a gtx 1050lp 2gb PSU in the system running fine and All I need is a SSD and a better CPU. I would preferblly like to move this systems guts to a better case such as A gaming case ATX Mid Tower The only problem is I don't know if this cases BTX Form Factor would work With any case at all. My main questions are Can I add a 500gb SSD, A gaming case preferiblly that can hold 1 SSD And a 1Tb and have a GTX 1050 LP 2gb FIT WELL INSIDE IT,   A new CPU such as a I5-7600k to my pc making it run better with many games. Hope these are awnserble and hoping I can get a better case for this pc.

Thank you for the additional information, @BudgetEveryting.

I am not certain that what you are proposing will work.  HP has their motherboards made to their specififcations.  So, they will have some proprietary connectors in many instances.  Also, because of the age of the components it will be difficult to find another motherboard that will accomodate them.  You would be far better off to save your money and buy an inexpensive gaming computer.  Technology has jumped ahead leaps and bounds.

So if I got the Rosewill Dual Fans MicroATX Mini Tower Computer Case with USB 2.0 Cases RANGER-M Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006BCK7RM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_W1CUAbJ535JGH with this Intel LGA1156/Intel P55/DDR3/A&GbE/MATX Motherboard, Retail BOXDP55WB https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002N2Z0KS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_72CUAbRWRZJH9 motherboard. Could that motherboard and that case support my gtx 1050lp, 1tb sata 2 hard drive, DVD/rom drive, 4x2 gb or ram, and my i5-650 Intel cpu. And the heatsink for the it 650 too?

@BudgetEveryting

The motherboard should fit the case.  The video card and hard drives should work, also.  I am not certain that the connectors on the motherboard will accomodate your DVD ROM drive, however.  The processor and memory are questionable.  I suggest that you contact the Tech Support for the motherboard to make certain that they will work.  I don't want you to spend a lot of money on the components and have to pay to return them.

So I checked part picker.com and the cpu will work. Allthough I don't know the exact ram of my comp so I don't know if it'll work with the motherboard. Also why would'nt the dvd drive work???

@BudgetEveryting

The DVD ROM drive will work if the connector on the motherboard is the same as the connector on it.
