HP ProOne 400 G2 20-inch Touch All-in-One PC

Hi everyone!

I have this Hp ProOne 400 G2 Touch AIO, with a socket 1151 core i3 6100T with max. TDP 35W.

The service manual shows many CPU configurations for this machine and one of them with a core i7 6700 processor with max. TDP 65W .
The original HP power supply is external and rated 19.5V  4.62A  90W máx.

So, i bought an i7 6700 and installed it, but the machine doesn't boot.

Instead, there's a sequence of 3 + 4 beeps/LEDs and it don't start, not even allows to enter BIOS setup!

The service manual states this code sequence as Hardware and says: "3.4 - The system board displays a power failure (crowbar)".

Why doesn't the machine start normally, as expected?

What does this even mean (crowbar)?!

Do you any idea what's happening and how to solve it?

Best regards,

Jaime

Hi, Jaime:

Since your PC came with an i3-6100T processor, it probably came with the 90W power supply as listed in the specs.

Though not specified, most likely you need the 120W power supply for the 65W processors.

Hey Paul! Hope you're okay.

Thank you so much for your prompt reply.

In fact my PC came with the 90W power supply.

And, in specs, HP states 2 possible power supplies: a 90W and a120W...

i was convinced the problem was something like my BIOS was locked to an  i3 6100T and that i should flash it with the version of the ones that came with an i7 6700. Does it make sense?

So, could it be as simple as that, just buying the 120w model without doing nothing else?

You're very welcome.

I'm doing fine, and I hope that you are too.

I doubt a BIOS update would resolve the problem.

If the processor wasn't supported, you would get a different beep code error, or an 1801 processor microcode error.

I recommend you go on eBay and find a used but tested and working 120W P/S.

Hey Paul, hey everybody,

I'm gonna buy one and try it.

Afterwards I'll leave here feedback if it was solved or not

Looked everywhere and apparently just me trying this. Few other people asked the same but none  received an affirmative answer with a testimony that it works.

Gratefull Paul and everyone for your help.

Thank you  so much for the input.

Cheers

Jaime
