@Red_J,

Thank you for your detailed follow-up: much appreciated!

That is very unfortunate with regards to the 310-watt power supply.  Such a power supply would have made it possible to power a LP RTX 3050, but come to think of it, that card most likely wouldn't fit in your case because of (very) limited space as I pointed out.

An RX 6400 may work: from what I read online, customers have reported that sometimes this card will not work with a 180-watt power supply, so if you want to go that route, you'll have to try it out.  Too bad that the Dell AMD Radeon RX 6500 4GB GDDR6 is out of price range, otherwise it would likely be the best graphics card available for your PC.

Kind Regards,

Thanks for your help so far.

I imagined that an oem pc could have limitations imposed, but honestly I didn't imagine they could be so restrictive.
Despite this, I'm using this PC to help my nephew take his first (not so lucky) steps in modding and building PCs.
Can I use this thread to ask you other questions about the upgrade and customization (not just hardware) of this machine? I don't know if it's allowed by the rules

@Red_J,

Yes, you can, since it is about the same PC.

Despite the stepback I'm using this PC to help my nephew take his first (not so lucky) steps in modding and building PCs.
Nothing complicated, added a transparent panel, paint a little and then do some hardware upgrades.

Now he asked me to add some RGB. The last time I mounted them personally (before moving on to assembly services) was the time of socket 775 and the trusty Core 2 Duo E-8500. "Back in the day" RGB fans had a simple molex connector while normal ones had 3-4 pins. Now I see that there are rgb led strips and 4-5 pin fans with integrated headers on the motherboards. Obviously the prodesk, being a company PC, has none of this and so I was thinking of getting something like this:

Ubanner 2 kit LED SMD 5050 SMD 1850 LED

do you think it could work?

I think should work, but what i can't get is how to replace the cpu fan with an rgb one.

The motherboard only has one standard 4-pin PWM connector available (also the only fan connector) and the heatsink use the case itself as motherboard backplate.

The fan itself seem a standard square 80mm fan that slot into a duct

Forgot to mention in previous reply, can you suggest me a good wifi card for this pc ? The intel 9560 is a compaion card that should be compatible, also the manual suggest a realtek one. Both are a bit old, can the slot take newer cards ?

@Red_J,

What an outstanding job, that looks awesome!

Yes, an RGB 80mm cooling fan would look really cool.  I prefer to use static blue LED cooling fans, powered through the standard 4-pin PWM connector, but they come in red and other colors too -at least here in the US.  For your case, this 4-pin 8025 PWM blue LED cooling fan would look great: HIGH POWER Replacement Blue LED CPU Cooling Fan 80-mm Frame 95 Diameter 4pin PWM | eBay, but the challenge is to find a Seller in your country that you can purchase a fan like this from.

With regards to a Wi-Fi card, I would suggest you use your motherboard's PCIe x4 slot, and try out one of these quality Wi-Fi cards: from more expensive to less expensive: https://www.amazon.it/TP-Link-Wireless-Bluetooth-Archer-TX50E/dp/B087ML9XMX/ref=sr_1_2?__mk_it_IT=%C...https://www.amazon.it/TP-Link-Wireless-Bluetooth-Archer-TX50E/dp/B0BWRXZZC8/ref=sr_1_2?__mk_it_IT=%C...https://www.amazon.it/TP-Link-Wireless-Bluetooth-Archer-TX50E/dp/B07MDH8HV4/ref=sr_1_2?__mk_it_IT=%C....

I was hoping to be able to keep a free PCIe slot for something else, is there any way I can use the dedicated m.2 slot?

maybe with one of these cards?

(From Quickspec manual )

As for the CPU fan, I couldn't find any similar here (Italy)- yet

@Red_J,

You mean using the M.2 Wi-Fi slot? -Yes, you can.  Remember to connect wired reception antenna patches (usually two of them):

Sorry but I haven’t entirely read all of that. One thing I’ll say is I really like the hp community and the brand that has video tutorials and spreadsheets for every part

so if I understand the limited reading I did here, you are looking for a 310w psu to replace a 180w.

now you have 2 options. If you want to add a card with a 6, 6+2 or 8 pin you can find them on AliExpress . I’m not sure if they make a 310w with the 8 pin connector or if you need the connector.

if you do need the connector and the 310w doesn’t have it you can buy a 400w or 500/550w that does. Again look at AliExpress.

Take note of the flat 7 pin wire. Some connectors have all 7 wires on them. Some have 3 or 4. Also check the placement of those wires match with yours. As a general rule most psu that work for most of us have the fan central and the plug socket central. If you want to post a picture of your power supply with close up of the connectors I have a few power supplies stored in my files.

 that’s a 310w for your machine. No external 8 pin. Some machines are 7 pin flat and 2x 4 pin. Some are 7 pin flat a 4 pin and a 6 pin. If yours is a 7 4 4 with the 7 pin wires in the right place then there’s your 310w
