- Okay guys...i got a question for you. I want to do a microcode update on my bios, so I can update to a Q6600 processor. I have my usb ready to do a flash but every time I put the processor in my dc7700 it gives me a "processor not compatible error message." Soon as i boot up. Yes, I have made changes to the bios setting to boot into usb, but it can't because that message pops up first. I don't see any way to bypass it or turn off the post message in the bios. Anyone who can tell me how to skip pass this so I can connect to the usb would be greatly appreciated.

Hi:
I didn't know that you tried the microcode update with the original processor installed, because I don't see that you indicated that you had.
Now, I guess you don't understand what I'm saying...I don't know of anyone on this forum that ever got a Q6XXX quad core processor to work in the dc7700, microcode update notwithstanding.
It certainly isn't listed in the specs as a supported processor...and if you install one of the unsupported E7XXX processors, you need a microcode update plus run a utility to set the processor's FSB speed to the max, because there is a bug in the BIOS.
Here is the link to the HP quickspecs for the dc7700. It has the list of supported processors.

The best supported processor you can install without a microcode update is the Conroe E6700 2.66 GHzprocessor, not the Wolfdale one.
Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to help you any further.

Hi:
The Q6600 is not supported in the dc7700 model series.
The only suggestion I can offer, would be to see if updating the microcode resolves the problem.
Put your old processor back in and update the microcode, then reinstall the Q6600.
If not then there is nothing you will be able to do about it.
See this discussion for how to update the microcode...

Hi Paul..i guess u not understanding what i am saying...i know how to update the microcode...i tried to do a microcode update with the old processor first..but it would not work..it said it could not find any hardware to change..so that is why I tried putting the processor in first and that is when it gives me an 1802 error soon as I power on..so I can"t do the microcode update..that is what I am trying to bypass. Solo any ideas..or do u know an updated process for that pc.that do not need a microcode update? Please help!!
