I tried to upgrade my old hdd to a new sata ssd in the laptop I stated an also changed the thermal paste. Battery was removed and no power present but now it will not turn on, no fan either. Just the charging light, how likely is it that I shorted it and killed something? Or is something else likely wrong? Any answers would be greatly appreciated

Before you started, was the laptop's battery fully-charged?
If so, disconnect the AC power-adapter.
Remove the battery.
Hold down the ON/OFF switch, for 15 seconds, to drain any "residual" electrical power.
Reconnect the battery.
Try to power-on the laptop.
Still dead, or OK, when _not_ connected to the AC adapter ???
