HP Recommended

Hp omen 35l am5 chipset, it  came with a ryzen 5 can I upgrade to a ryzen 9 7900x. I’ve updated the bios and tried to install it but just getting black screen at startup. I cannot find anywhere the compatibility of this motherboard

Please confirm that your "35L" is an HP OMEN 35L Gaming Desktop GT16-0xxx as fitted with the Wolant motherboard [SSID: 8CF4]: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_10762985-10763017-16.

 

If it is, for the moment, the Ryzen 7 8700G is the best compatible processor for your PC, also verified here: UserBenchmark: HP OMEN 35L Gaming Desktop GT16-0xxx Compatible Components.

That list is clearly incorrect. My unit came shipped with an 8700F, and ran great straight out of the box with BIOS F.09. I know of someone that is successfully using a 9700x in the 8CF4 Wolant MB without issue. HP has obviously unlocked compatibility for other CPU’s besides the ones they publicly support, they just haven’t made it widely known.

HP's list may indeed be incomplete, but until or unless users like the "someone you know" publishes their benchmark on sites such as Userbenchmark, verifiable documentation is lacking.
