I bought a i7 9800x CPU with a lga 2066 socket to upgrade from my i3 but the socket for the motherboard is different (lga 1151) what motherboard can I upgrade to for this case/the internals without having to buy much else also fitting the new CPU.

@Aiden68,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

I assume the "i3" you mentioned is an i3-8100.

In any regards, your HP Pavilion Gaming 790-0010 is only compatible with 8th and 9th gen Intel Core "Coffee Lake/Refresh" LGA 1151 processors, not 9th Gen X LGA 2066 processors.

The only HP computer that HP fitted with an LGA 2066 motherboard, would be the HP Z4 G4 Workstation.

I doubt very much that an HP Z4 G4 Workstation motherboard would fit (dimensionally and configurationally) inside your HP Pavilion Gaming 790-0010.

Kind Regards,
