I bought a built PC for someone and would like to Secure Erase the SSD that came with the machine. I cannot find HP dedicated software for this type of formatting of memory as it seems to be built into HP notebook and PC bios. However I dont know if I have completely overlooked that this type of HP support software Exists. Can someone give me some advice on how to do it and what software to use other than Parted Magic and DBAN (which doesnt work on ssd) ?

PS.  I tried secure erasing this SSD using GParted from a bootable flash drive to no avail. One of the commands reported that the drive is frozen and the command to secure erase reported some other issue why it couldnt do it.

Hello

in the BIOS of Probook and Elitebook there is Secure Erase in teh HDD utility or in Security menu.

Otherwise you can use HP Refresh the will Install a ThinPro Linux but before to install that OS, it will run a sofware Secure Erase. it tooks to me more than 1 hour for 512GB SSD SATA.

it doesn't work with PCIe NVME SSD.

after HP Refrash installation, you can reinstall Windows 10.

Wow, one hour for 512 GB? For me it takes 20-30 minutes only... with almost the same actions about erasing data. Anyway, I think that developers, especially from such giants like HP should consider about releasing special software (maybe even on CDs included to their every PC), which would help any user to safely erase every single data hardware user would like. Maybe it's all about poor business models and strategies. Here is simple bi development solutions, which can work for any type of company, even so huge like HP. They simply demonstrate what to do in certain situations,
