I have a 3-1 Hp Pavilion desktop and my hard drive just went out, so i got a new 2tb 7200rpm 64mb cache sata6.0gb/3.5 in hard drive to replace, will it work or do i need a new power supply! thanks for the help ahead!

No!  Your power supply unit (PSU) should be fine.  The hard drive won't draw enough wattage to cause any problems.

 

Here is the Upgrading and Servicing Guide for the computer: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05934592

 

On Pages 12 thru 15 are instructions for replacing the hard drive.
