Hello, tell me, as I see in the photo, the HP z2 G9 13700k has only 1 chafan connector on the board. Does the fan on the processor have a non-standard connector? Not the same as on all 3pin-4pin? How so? Now, in order to replace a fan on the processor, do you need to buy a non-standard one from HP?

@Chestorx,

Welcome to our HP community forum!

You raised a very good question.

Short answer: yes, it looks like you'll need to buy a non-standard 5-pin HP cooling fan.

You need a replacement cooling fan attached to an HP Z2 Tower G9 Workstation's CPU heatsink (p/n: N10072-001 (M82264-001) "SPS-Cooler CPU 125W Z2 TWR G9") :

Because your motherboard requires a 5-pin cooling fan:

And to be honest, I don't know why HP chose this cooling fan connecting configuration. Looking at an HP 5-pin cooling fan in my possession, a black wire loops from pin #1 to pin #5, which I believe to be "GND" (ground) and not an additional "control" wire. (Then again, I am not privy to the thinking of HP engineers.)  Either way, I am not sure why this added pin was deemed necessary.

Forum: Please amuse me: I am all ear to hear the reason why -but I digress.

Anyway, not to worry my friend: go online and search for part number 463991-001, like you'll see here via AliExpress: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805856909710.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.main.23.4822QYnXQYnXhH&al...., which I believe (best effort) what you need.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

Yes, thank you for the detailed analysis. I also don’t understand why 5pin and not 4pin standards) there would be more options for replacement. Well, okay, the main thing is that now I know what I need. Before buying a new PC, I always try to get those components that are often prone to failure in advance.
