Hp z230
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I swapped the case of an hp z230, and changed the video card. The case seems to have an unusual connection point for the case headers (had led, power sw, p led). It has sixteen connection points instead of ten. I can’t seem to find where to plug in case headers into the sixteen point connection type on the stock motherboard.

As motherboards are custom propietary...you will encounter problems when you connect them with other case that was not desgined for it...so it will probably not work!

Thanks, ended up ordering a new motherboard and cpu cooler, that will work with the current components and case that I have.

do you know what size case i need for the swap im doing it as well do i need a micro atx case or atx?

is this the sff version or the MT? I bought the MT myself and in order to case swap it I had to buy an adapter to connect a normal psu to it. I also had to use plastic washers (oh and I had to buy the stock cpu cooler) to place on the bottom of the cpu cooler so it would stay in place outside of the stock case. This is because they do their cpu cooler's differently to prevent it from being moved from the proprietary components. There's also something a bit unusual with the placement of motherboard standoffs so instead of fitting regular atx/micro atx the pattern of which the bottom row of standoffs were placed didn't fit my case. I also am able to get the hdd light, power led and power button working ,but couldn't figure out reset switch. I also have 2 usb errors and sys fan error when i start the machine due to not having a 3pin fan and not utilizing all the usb slots. I probably would be clear of errors if i get a few jumpers and also got a fan that fits the 3pin config.

Hey,

i have build my z230 in another case also.

i encounterd a series of problems, the worst one, i had to solder on the motherboard on the 3.0 usb connector to give ground to the id pin.

i used the original plug for power and hdd light + the temperature sensor is realy important. also i had to grind the original case in pieces for the cpu cooler mount and i had to redrill mb standoffs of a standart atx case.

for the 18pin power connector i am now waiting for a 24 to 18 pin adapter. how did you solve this???

kind regards 😉
