Hi
I would like to upgrade my motherboard on my workstation z800 with the motherboard of the z820.
The problem i m facing is that i need to have the support for PCIe 3.0, which is not supported on the z800.
is it possible to upgrade the workstation keeping the same chassis ?
Thanks

Greetings ferlix90,
Welcome to the forum.
I don't work for HP.
My suggestions are not endorsed by HP and are based on the information provided by you.
Some considerations you need to examine are as follows:
1. Have you verified the z820 motherboard can be installed in the z800 workstation?
You have to review the z800 specifications and the z820 specifications to determine if the z820 system board can be migrated to the z800 chassis.
2. You will have PCIe 3.0 support if the z820 chipset provides this support.
Have you referred to z820 HP specifications to verify the z820 provides PCIe 3.0 support?

For the 820 motherboard, it will fit in the chasis of the 800... but there are some major problems with everything else.
The fan/air shrouds are different. The memory cooling assembly will not fit back into case once CPUs are put on the board. The long CPU channel cooling shroud not designed to work with the change in placement of the CPUs.
I too was wanting to upgrade my z800 with the Z820 board, or try an 840 systemboard...but, it's a NO-GO
Unfortunately, you will not to upgrade chasis to make it work.
