When using HpFirmwareUpdRec64.exe the silent parameters to perform a typical BIOS Update are -s -pPASSWORDFILE -fFOLDER -r -b (e.g. in SCCM or any other deployment environment).

Without a set BIOS password everything works like a charm. But as soon as a BIOS password is set, I get error 259 and error 9009 (which is nowhere to be found on the internet). After a lot of try and error I found that password-files produced by HpqPswd64.exe MUST NO LONGER be bin-files in the same directory as HpFirmwareUpdRec64.exe. Unfortunatley every (HP) documentation provides examples of pwd.bin....

Solution: Rename PWD.BIN to PWD.KEY (or any other extension you like...)

PS: Please mind that HP changed HpFirmwareUpdRec64.exe. It now uses folders instead of (bin-)files and folders can keep multiple BIOS binaries. [ bin-files where used in former HPBIOSUPDREC64.exe . ]

Feel free to cheer up a little
