HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-d5000 (4V9Y1AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

In last few months I was facing noise fan problem. But yesterday when I was lifting my laptop a sudden very bad sound burst out from the fan and I don't know why. My laptop is not damaged and there is not a single incident of accidently dropping or anything other problem that can cause this much noise from outside. I want to fix this problem but I don't know how to do it.

Hi @Aditya-1_Mishra, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP 15.6-inch Laptop PC 15-d5000 is having a fan issue, and those sudden loud noises can be quite unsettling. Think of it like your laptop's little internal cooling system is suddenly shouting instead of quietly humming! 📣 Let's explore what might be causing this and gently guide you through steps to quiet things down. 🤫

It sounds like this fan issue in your HP 15.6-inch Laptop PC 15-d5000 could be due to a few different reasons, let's imagine them as potential little gremlins causing trouble inside:

  1. Dust Accumulation – If dust builds up inside, it can cause the fan to run loudly or get stuck.
  2. Fan Misalignment – A sudden noise could mean the fan blades got misaligned or something obstructed them.
  3. Fan Bearing Failure – If the fan’s bearing is worn out, it may start making loud grinding or rattling noises.
  4. Loose Screws or Mounting Issues – If the fan isn’t secured properly, it can vibrate loudly.
  5. Software Issue (Fan Running at High Speed) – Sometimes, a BIOS issue or background processes can cause the fan to run at max speed.

Steps to Fix the Issue

1. Perform a Hard Reset

Try a hard reset to clear temporary glitches:

  • Shut down your laptop.
  • Unplug the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds.
  • Plug in the charger (without the battery, if removable) and turn it on.

2. Check for Blockages or Dust

  • Use compressed air to clean the fan vents (do this while the laptop is off).
  • If comfortable, open the back panel and check if there’s any visible dust clogging the fan.

3. Check for Fan Damage or Loose Parts

Since the noise was sudden and loud, a fan blade might be broken or loose. If you are comfortable opening your laptop:

  • Open the back panel and inspect the fan blades.
  • If a blade is broken, the fan will need to be replaced.
  • Check if the fan is loose or misaligned; tighten screws if necessary.

4. Update BIOS & Drivers

  • Go to HP Support Assistant and check for BIOS and thermal management updates.
  • Also, update the chipset and cooling-related drivers via Device Manager.

5. Monitor Fan Speed & Temperatures

Use HWMonitor or Open Hardware Monitor to check if your CPU/GPU is overheating. If temperatures are too high, your fan might be working overtime, leading to noise issues.

6. Replace the Fan (If Needed)

If none of the above steps work and the fan continues to make loud noises, the fan might need replacement

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have a wonderfully quiet and cool day! 😌❄️
