I have a HP desktop Pavillion 595-p0084 with a 464 SSD "C" drive. It is a couple of year old and the C drive is normallyabout half full. All of a sudden it shows only 3.3Gb free space. Can I delete some of the files (Which Ones) to create more space? Thanks for any help you may have!

Hi @rtdpharmacist,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Before you start deleting files, it's essential to identify what is consuming the space on your C drive. Here are a few steps to help you identify and free up space on your HP Pavilion desktop.
Disk Cleanup:
- Use the built-in Disk Cleanup utility on Windows to remove temporary files, system cache, and other unnecessary files.
- Press Windows key + S, type "Disk Cleanup," and select the utility. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Uninstall Unnecessary Programs:
- Go to "Settings" > "Apps" to uninstall programs that you no longer need or use.
Check for Large Files and Folders:
- Use Windows Explorer to check for large files or folders taking up significant space.
- You can sort files by size or use a third-party disk space analyzer tool.
Move Files to External Storage:
- Move large media files (videos, photos, etc.) to an external drive if you don't need them on the C drive.
Windows Update Cleanup:
- Run the Disk Cleanup utility and select "Clean up system files." Check "Windows Update Cleanup" to remove unnecessary update files.
Disable Hibernation:
- If you don't use hibernation, you can disable it to free up space. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type: powercfg /h off.
Empty Recycle Bin:
- Make sure to empty the Recycle Bin as deleted files still occupy space until the bin is emptied.
Check for System Restore Points:
- System Restore points can take up a significant amount of space. Adjust the space allocated to System Restore or delete old restore points.
Clean Browser Cache:
- Clear your web browser cache to free up space.
Run a Disk Cleanup Tool:
- Consider using third-party disk cleanup tools that can identify and clean up unnecessary files.
Before deleting any files, ensure you have backups of important data.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thank you so much for the help. I have recovered 80Gb of space on my C drive. So far, no problems have been encountered in the operations of the computer. I am an 80 year olf retired pharmacist with not a large amount of knowledge of computers even though I have been using them for about 40 years. lol
Thanks again.
