HP ENVY Desktop PC TPE01-3000i (4M0M1AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I currently have a 300w power supply, but I have the upgraded HP 500w power supply in route which has the require 6+2 pin plug the 4060 Ti needs. My computer has an i5-2400 CPU with a max draw of 118w, and a 4060 Ti 16 GB has a max draw of 175w for a theoretical combined max draw of these 2 components being 293w.

I see on User benchmark a plethora of users with the same exact computer using i7-12700 CPU's paired with 3060 ti's without issue and these 2 components have a higher total wattage draw of 380w, so why are people saying a 500w power supply isn't enough? Simple math says this isn't the case. I plan on running the build with 32GB of PC25600 (@3200mz) and a 1 TB NVMe M.2 980 Pro, no extra HD's or peripherals beyond a wireless mouse, built-in Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card and a USB keyboard. Please explain why even though I'll be using 87w less than confirmed builds that 500w power supply isn't enough wattage? I don't want to be throwing money away. I do plan harvesting the CPU, graphics card, CPU cooler & RAM for a future upgradable build when I have the money.

@mcu2,

Welcome to our HP Community Forum!

No worries: your 500-watt power supply upgrade is quite sufficient to power an RTX 4060 Ti, such as this model.

I assume your HP ENVY Desktop PC TPE01-3000i (4M0M1AV) is fitted with a Reno motherboard (SSID: 89B5), and that you upgraded your 310-watt power supply (p/n: L10875-800) with the 500-watt p/n: L05757-800 power supply.

You are good to go.

Yes, my HP Envy TE01-3244 has the Reno (SSID: 89B5) motherboard and currently has the stock 300w power supply installed. The upgraded HP 500-watt p/n: L05757-800 power supply is arriving tomorrow. Thank you for the conformation. I plan on getting 16GB version of the 4060 Ti instead of 8GB.

* I have another question; can I put an i7-12700k to upgrade the processor? Obviously I won't be able to overclock it and have no desire to do so, it's just the fact that non-K 12700's seem to be more expensive and harder to come by. Officially I know the 12700 is supported but is the 12700k "unofficially" supported? I am running the latest firmware: F.14)

@mcu2,

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like your HP ENVY Desktop PC TPE01-3000i can handle an i7-12700K, probably because its base TDP (125-watt) and max turbo power demand (190-watt) are rated (far) beyond what a Reno motherboard can handle/is hard-coded for.  This is also confirmed here, where no HP ENVY TE01-3xxx platforms are found fitted with an i7-12700K.

Looks like the i7-12700 or i7-12700F are your best processor options.

@mcu2,

If you were to purchase an i7-12700/F processor, do not buy a so-called "ES" or "Intel Confidential" version.

Btw, here is a reasonably priced eBay i7-12700F purchase option: Intel® Core™ i7-12700F 2.10GHz 12-Core 20-Thread CPU (SRL4R) 644275354569 | eBay.

@NonSiquiter777,

Well I ordered a 500w hp power supply from Ebay, it was new and all but the plugs weren't what was pictured; I had to splice the P3 4-pin CPU power plug as it was the same length as the P3 and P4 plug (don't know where the P4-pin came from). Anyway, it worked and they ended up refunding me.

I got a PNY RTX 4060-Ti 16GB & upgraded to an i7-12700f resulting in getting the #1 spot in Userbenchmark for all HP Envy TE01-3XXX systems. I had also upgraded the NVMe HDD and 32GB of Crucial RAM @3200mhz. Thanks for your help.
