@SorestDiamond,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

By all means, let's talk about upgrading.

Your HP ENVY Desktop - 750-414 (X6F49AA) as fitted with the Odense2-S motherboard (SSID: 828A) can be upgraded up to an i7-6700K and up to 2x16GB of DDR4 PC4-17000, 2133 MHz, Non-ECC, UDIMM, 288-pin RAM sticks.  You can use 2400 MHz RAM sticks, but they will 'bridge' (down throttle) to 2133 MHz.

If you haven't done so already, you should use a SATA SSD as your primary (boot) drive.

Because your motherboard is 24-pin ATX power enabled, you can easily upgrade your stock 300-watt power supply with a higher capacity industry standard ATX power supply in order to power a higher end graphics card.

What power supply can I get. Is it Only the 500 watt version?

@SorestDiamond,

Not necessarily -any industry standard 24-pin ATX power supply is compatible with your motherboard.  However, you'll have to be careful to replace your current power supply with one that will physically (dimensionally) fit inside your case.

If you can get me the exact measurements of your current power supply (LxWxH) and the part number, I can provide you with some power supply upgrade options.

Yes that would be awesome. I will do that tonight as soon as i get home in about 2 hours. Sorry I'm kind of new with working on computers so my next couple of questions might sound pretty stupid. Lol, but.......

1)  Are you sure this PCU has a 24pin connector and not a 4 pin? I would love to get to 650 watts of power for my graphics car that bought, it's a EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 TI SC Gaming 11GB GDDR5X

2) Also, on your first reply you said I can upgrade to a "i7-6700k" how do I do that? Is it just by replacing the 2 ram cards i currently have (i have a 8gb & 4gb ram cards) to installing 2 matching 16gb ram cards for a total of 32gb of ram?

3) Also you said to use a certain SSD,  but do I need to change my hard drive as well? Thank you for your help

Lastly, what size saya ssd can I jnstall?

@SorestDiamond,

OK, let's see how far we can get this evening.

Yes, I am absolutely certain that your HP ENVY Desktop - 750-414 as fitted with the Odense2 motherboard, is powered by a 24-pin ATX power supply: a 300-watt power supply, according to the specs. You'll need at least a 650-watt power supply in order to power a GTX 1080 Ti.

The processor upgrade I mentioned, the i7-6700K, is separate from the RAM upgrade.  But since you are obviously a novice in all of this upgrading stuff, that can wait for now in my opinion.

If you are interested in upgrading your RAM, as you said you were, I would consider something like this matching 2 x 16GB Kingston DDR4 2133 MHz p/n: KVR21E15D8/16 RAM kit, like this eBay purchase option: https://www.ebay.com/itm/167890650222?_skw=2x16GB+DDR4+2133+MHz+UDIMM&itmmeta=01K96MKSEHYNYBW8JAT3A6....

This 2x16GB RAM upgrade is something that I would do, having upgraded quite a few legacy HP desktops.  However, another option is to get a matching 8GB RAM stick, which would be much cheaper.  For this, I need to know what the part number is of your 8GB RAM stick, so I can provide you with the best available pricing -also likely via an eBay Seller.

You can install any capacity SATA SSD (Solid State Drive) as your primary (boot) drive, but first things first: I need to know what the part number is of your current boot drive.  Besides your primary (boot) drive, you can install up to two additional SATA drives for secondary storage.

So for the ram sticks. Just for the 2 sticks is $249. Isn't that a lot because I bought 2 of the Samsung 32gb sticks at a way lower price. Is there something special with these sticks?

Also the dimensions for the psu is approx 8.5c x 5". I can email you some pics if you like

Also would this psu work you think?

@SorestDiamond,

Yes, that would be too high of a cost -this eBay Seller sells the same RAM sticks for less than half (2x$54): https://www.ebay.com/itm/205087239857?_skw=KVR21E15D8&itmmeta=01K9AB4QQ3F59NPPSKH0QD83Z5&hash=item2f....

There is nothing special per se with this RAM, other than it is a proven example of best performing RAM.

Please provide a link (Amazon, eBay, whatever you got) for this ATX power supply, so I can take a look at it.
