I'm looking to find out how to upgrade my HP Omen Obelisk OMEN by HP Obelisk Desktop 875-0034 to multi-gig network/internet (5 to 10 gig speed).  Can it be done with a new network card and how?

Hi @RobertReid,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Upgrading your HP Omen Obelisk Desktop 875-0034 to support multi-gig networking, such as 5 to 10 gigabit speeds, is indeed possible through the installation of a compatible network card. Here are the steps and considerations you need to take into account:

Compatible Network Card: You will need an Ethernet card that supports multi-gigabit speeds (5GBASE-T or 10GBASE-T). These cards typically install into a PCIe slot on your motherboard. Brands like Intel and ASUS offer a range of multi-gig capable network cards.

Check PCIe Slots: Before purchasing, ensure your desktop has an available PCIe slot. Typically, a PCIe x4 or x8 slot is required for high-speed network adapters.

Installation Steps:

  • Power Down and Unplug: Turn off your PC and unplug it from the power source.
  • Open the Case: Remove the side panel. This usually involves unscrewing or sliding open the panel.
  • Insert the Network Card: Locate an empty PCIe slot and insert the new network card firmly. Secure the card with screws to the chassis.
  • Close the Case: Replace the side panel and secure it.

Driver Installation: After successfully installing the network card, restart your computer. Your operating system should detect the new card and prompt you to install necessary drivers, which are often included with the card or available for download on the manufacturer's website.

Configure the Network: Once installed, configure your network settings in your OS to ensure the full potential of the multi-gig network speeds is realised.

Networking Equipment: Ensure your router and other networking equipment also support multi-gig speeds to avoid bottlenecking your connection.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
