HP Pavilion Desktop - 570-p044ur

I installed this on my motherboard. I updated Windows in an attempt to get it to work. Am I disabled or is it not my fault? It only sees 8 GB.
DDR4 DIMM 16Gb (2x8Gb), 2666MHz BaseTech (BTD42666C19-8GN-OEM-K2)

Hi @Polotos,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your PC is only recognizing 8 GB of RAM even though you installed 16 GB. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check Physical Installation

Make sure both RAM sticks are fully seated in the correct slots on the motherboard.

Consult your motherboard manual; some boards require specific slots to be used for dual-channel memory.

Check BIOS/UEFI

Restart your PC and enter BIOS/UEFI.

Check the total memory detected.

If only 8 GB is detected here, Windows will only see 8 GB.

Look for a memory remapping or XMP profile setting and enable it if available.

Test RAM Sticks Individually

Remove one stick and boot with the other.

Repeat with the other stick.

This will show if one of the RAM sticks is faulty.

Check for 32-bit vs 64-bit Windows

A 32-bit Windows system can only see ~4 GB of RAM.

You said Windows is updated, but double-check that you’re running 64-bit:
Settings > System > About > System Type.

Check for Maximum Supported RAM

Verify your motherboard’s maximum supported RAM and supported speed.

DDR4 2666 MHz is fine for most modern boards, but some older boards may not support 16 GB fully or require a BIOS update.

Check Windows Memory Settings

Press Win + R, type msconfig, go to Boot > Advanced options, and make sure Maximum memory is unchecked.

Restart after changing this.

Update BIOS

If your motherboard has an outdated BIOS, it may not recognize full memory.

Updating BIOS can often solve this.

Check Task Manager

Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc, go to Performance > Memory, and see how much usable memory is shown.

Sometimes Windows reserves part of RAM for hardware, so “usable” can be less than installed, but not usually 50% less.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. Your advice is similar to my friends'. I can give you a general idea. 1) My motherboard's BIOS doesn't allow me to configure the PC properly. 2) It sees two occupied slots, but doesn't communicate with the second one. When I checked, it started beeping when I inserted memory. 4) Everything is fine with Windows and in Windows. 5) There's no flag. 6) My motherboard's latest update is very old, so I probably just need a new PC. Simply put, this is an issue with the motherboard itself, so I've come to the conclusion that I need a new PC. Thanks again for the reply.

Hi @Polotos,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for sharing those details. It really helps clarify the situation. Based on what you’ve described:

Your Observation

  • The HP Pavilion Desktop 570-p044ur BIOS is not detecting the second memory slot correctly.
  • Beeping when inserting RAM indicates a hardware-level issue.
  • Windows runs fine with one stick, so the OS and RAM are okay.
  • BIOS updates are very old, and no new firmware is available.

HP Guidance

This behavior strongly suggests a motherboard fault or a limitation in the memory channel. Since:

  • The BIOS cannot configure or recognize the second slot.
  • The latest BIOS update is already installed,
  • And HP has not released newer firmware for this model,

The most practical solution is to replace the system board or consider upgrading to a newer HP desktop that meets your performance needs. Continuing with the current board may lead to further stability issues.
