I need Xeon for my bioinformatics tools. I found, that Intel i9-9900 is practically the same like Xeon E-2288g, the difference is in ECC support and TDP (65->95wt). I upgraded my PSU from 250 Wt to brand HP 400wt normally. But when I tried to plug Xeon in 1151v2 socket - the processor cooler stoped in 2 second after startup, computer turned off and bios screen was inaccessible. I need to replug my old i5-9500. Now I have the latest BIOS. I know, that I need to upgrade my microcode from CPU rev 0xC6 to 0xCC via "HP UEFI tools", but the best decision is to edit rom-file. Can anyone help me, please? I just bought Intel Core i9-9900 and think, that it is the best decision. The system would be stable and will not overheat, no problems with alternative heatsink and South Bridge. I wish it will be able to run protein modeling for 48-72 hours nonstop, without errors. Maybe I will fully customize and buy HP Workstation Z2 G8 SFF later, or something like this

as far as i know, a xeon cpu is not a absolute requirement for bioinformatics tools although ECC memory is very strongly recommended
just what error are you getting?
bios modding can quickly brick a computer, unless you can do a "FULL" backup of the existing bios and have a way to reprogram a corrupted/bad bios then i recommend you don't try this, sell the existing system and/or buy another system that will run your software. used HP zX20 systems are quite cheap on ebay a z420 system can be had for under 200.00 USD

Thank you for response. But the issue remains the same. I don't understand why HP provides BIOS update for very old Xeon E3 122xx and keeps away from Xeon E 22xx (2288g) for my EliteDesk 800 G5 SFF. Is it marketing policy or deficiency in technical staff? When several years ago I bought premium laptop Sony VAIO Z11, I could ask feature request for any hardware issue, even BIOS updates for my demands. Unfortunately, I don't see thorough technical support in HP.
Due to booting problems with Intel Xeon E 2288g with native updated HP BIOS, I understand that problem is not only in CPUID microcodes, but even in South Bridge, its dependencies and proprietary HP hardware.
On various forums users describe problems with nonstop CPU cooler 100% workload and impossible booting from CD-ROM after forced CPU microcodes update.
I don't have much time and efforts for hacking experiments with BIOS patterns from my and other HP models.
The question is, how can I make official feature request in HP technical support? Or if it is principally impossible, then to get answer, why.

sigh, all that text and you failed to answer my simple question...........................
you don't have much time to muck around hacking a system?
simple solution..................... BUY a system that the software vender says supports their software

Hi Skurydinsv, as fellow Forum members, we provide assistance for no charge.
Yes, as per CPU/LGA 1155 documentation (see link below), the Xeon E-2288G should theoretically fit. However, it is entirely possible that the much higher TDP (95 watt vs. 65 watt) may be the issue here.
From personal experience HP has been known to set TDP limits in their MB programming.
If it is indeed the case that the TDP is standing in the way (HP or "Expert" to acknowledge!), maybe the next best Xeon that may sneak past HP's TDP limit that may work on your 800 G5 would be the 80 watt TDP Xeon E-2278G .
CPU-Upgrade: Intel Core i9-9900 CPU

I don't think so. The support of 95 Watt CPU is declared in instruction for HP Elitedesk 800 G5 SFF.
Moreother, there are additional part numbers for proper CPU cooling.
Or am I wrong and this support additionally depend on motherboard revision?

Googling, I see that a user here has an i9-9900 running on their 800 G5 mini. You might ask how they got it to work.
