I have two similarly spec'd Z4 G4 workstations but with different graphics cards. I'll call the workstations "W1" and "W2" and the respective graphics cards "G1" and G2". Several years ago, I swapped cards so that W1 had G2 installed and W2 had G1 installed. The swap was uneventful. This week, I decided to swap the cards back to their original machines. W2 accepted G2 without a problem, but W1 won't accept G1. It only likes G2 now. Meanwhile, W2 works fine with either. I'm trying to figure out what could be the problem. The BIOS settings are the same on both machines.
With G1 installed back in W1, the power comes on, the fans run, the power light is on and not blinking, and there are no beeps. But I don't even get the HP logo that normally comes up at the beginning of the BIOS loading process. I've updated all the drivers, confirmed that I'm running the latest BIOS, I've uninstalled and reinstalled both G1 and G2 into W1 multiple times. I've tried different power connectors, thinking that one of them might be bad. The result is always the same. G2 works fine. G1 doesn't work at all.
What stupid thing could I be overlooking?
