I want to add RAM to my HP OMEN 40L Desktop model:GT21-0148z but want to add some sticks that are 16GB instead of 8GB and I would rather save some $ and get non lit up ones. Can I do away with the stock lit up ones and go with new 16bg sticks from another brand?

These are the details of what I already have:

HyperX 16 GB DDR4-3733 MHz XMP RGB Heatsink RAM (2 x 8 GB)

I don't have anything good to say about HP support.

@Brettmm92,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Your OMEN 40L Desktop GT21-0148z is likely fitted with 2x8GB of Kingston HP37D4U1S8MR-8X.

Given that HP OMEN systems are rather finnicky with regards to non-HP branded RAM, I would suggest you try the following non-HP branded Kingston Fury Beast DDR4 3600 MHz RAM (couldn't find 3733 MHz RAM) via Amazon -meaning, if it doesn't work out, return it to get your money back: Amazon.com: Kingston Fury Beast 32GB (2x16GB) 3600MT/s DDR4 CL18 Desktop Memory Kit of 2 KF436C18BBK....

For best RAM results (as seen here), go with 2x16GB of Kingston HP37D4U1S8ME-16XR -that is, if you can get your hands on them, and without having to call your banker first.

Another non-HP branded RAM that apparently works well in an OMEN by HP 40L Gaming Desktop GT21-0xxx
system, is 2x16GB Kingston Fury KF3733C19D4/16GX -but I could not locate this RAM for sale via the usual eCommerce sites on my first try.

Kind Regards,

Thanks for your reply, I will give that a shot especially since I do have Amazon.
