Note: The following problem was already adressed in another post (therefore I feel less alone). I copy this post, reflecting my own situation:
I want to upgrade my graphics card to the NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 but once plugged in, the screen stays black on boot up. I am guessing it is a BIOS issue - I have a hp pro with BIOS V7.11
Please can you help me out - I either want to upgrade the BIOS to a more recent BIOS. What would you recommend? Or get a different graphics card for 2560x1440 resolution (which one).
PS: the original graphics card was a NIVIDIA GrForce GT-250 @ 1Gb

The short answer to that is "No" there is not BIOS update past the 7.16 version. In order to use the NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 card a BIOS version of 8.** is needed.
On a side note - the graphics card makers did make a GT NVida 7.** version to accommodate users with a switched version that would work with the older version of BIOS. I have not looked for one. I'll leave that up to you.
And on a further note - you might want to PM @BeemerBiker He is our HP forum, also.

Thank You, dear TheOldMan !
I'll return the GT730 and the GT710 cards (also acuired before) to the seller for refund. Also I documented the problem as a comment to the product at the venors Internet site.
Thank you, have a nice weekend
Chris

Yea, I remember going to that forum for help and almost bricking my Pro 3400 MT. After several tries, I did manage to mod the bios to work with newer graphics cards but later on @Paul_Tikkanen mentioned that there were 4 different motherboards that could have their bios upgraded. Paul referenced this page and as far as I can tell the 3300 and 3400 both use the cupertino2

I do not know who put the above document together or who did the original mod, but I have been advised that each of the Pegatron motherboard work with the newer NVidia boards after upgrading to the mod'ed bios. Cards like GTX-1070 and higher need a larger power supply but worked fine in my 3400 MT

Dear BeamerBiker,
thank you for your input on this issue. I'm not experienced enough to touch details on the BIOS. Therfore I try to find a graphic card with another processor and architecture. I'm therefore waiting for answer from my wendor.
Since I don't want to change my PC yet, I may also just stay with the new screen (2560x1440) and accept something less than the best quality of the display.
Kind regards from Lake Geneva / Switzerland
