i have a  HP 82F1version 1.01 motherboard and wanted to upgrade my cpu from a i5-7400 to a i7-7700 will i need to do a bios update?

Welcome to our HP community forum!

 

You do not need a BIOS upgrade when installing an i7-7700K on your Odense2-K motherboard (SSID: 82F1).  And yes, an i7-7700K is indeed compatible with your motherboard.

 

However, it is always helpful to update your BIOS to the latest version HP has released.

 

For example, if you got an HP Pavilion Power Desktop 580-0xx, go to: HP Pavilion Power 580-000 Desktop PC series Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support, and upload/install the latest BIOS version if you didn't get it yet:

Ditto if you got an OMEN by HP Desktop PC - 870-224OMEN by HP Desktop PC - 870-224 Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support:
