I purchased the HP ENVY 750-415VHR as part of a VIVE bundle. This has only 8G of memory.
I also purchased the new VR game Half LIfe - Alyx, but get a warning that my memory is lower than recommended (the game recommends 12G).
I understand that I may be able to replace the DIMMs to upgrade (perhaps to 16G), but find HP's site frustrating. The virtual help sequences just tell me to purchase parts from HP, while all of the site features so far have been completely unhelpful in finding the actual DIMMs that would be compatible.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for finding compatible DIMMS (or any other advice on trying to upgrade)?
Thanks

Hi:
Below is the link to the Crucial memory report for your PC.
They guarantee compatibility, so you may want to order memory from them.
https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp---compaq/envy-750-415
The report differs from what the HP memory upgrade info specs indicate.
The processor and chipset your PC has support 64 GB (4 x 16 GB) of memory with 4 memory slots, so I would imagine that the Crucial report of 2 x 16 GB is accurate.
But if you want to be on the safe side, go with the 8 GB chip.
DDR4-2400 would be fine since the memory is only going to run at 2133 MHz anyway.

Thank you so much.
I realize that this is a different question, but I am also looking at what other upgrade priorities may be for games like this. The game plays on my system now, but I'm sure it could be better. Here are the minimum specs:
CPU: Intel Core i5-7500 / AMD Ryzen 5 1600
RAM: 12GB RAM
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB) / AMD Radeon RX 580 (8GB)
It looks like my system has:
Intel Core i5-6400 Quad Core CPU, 8GB DDR4 memory (now upgraded to 16GB), Radeon RX480 graphics card, and 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD
Which of the other component upgrades are likely to have the most impact on the way a game like this will work on my system?
Thanks!

You're very welcome.
Unfortunately, that is not my area of expertise.
I know you couldn't upgrade the processor to a 7th gen core.
The processor upgrade info can be found at the link below.
https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c05236921
I don't know what those additional requirements are on the processor upgrade info, so if you wanted to upgrade the processor, I would stick with the plain i7-6700.
I recommend you start a new topic regarding a possible graphics card upgrade.
