HP Pavilion Power Desktop - 580-137c
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

I currently have an m.2 NVMe Drive in that is PCIe 3.0 capable but when using several Hardware Information software ive found that it is always saying that my m.2 NVMe drive is using PCIe 2.0 x4 but then as a side note it mentions that the drive is capable of using the PCIe 3.0 x 4 connection. Should i assume that the m.2 slot is only PCIe 2.0 or is could it be that i need to turn off one or more of the SATA ports in BIOS to have the m.2 NVMe connection using PCIe 3.0 as i know that has been something that some motherboards have required in the past and may still now depending on the board i am guessing. So ya basically does anyone know if the m.2 NVMe port on the HP Basswood 8399 Motherboard that comes installed in the HP Pavilion Power Desktop 580-137c? If it is capable of using the PCIe 3.0 specification how do i go about switching mine over to use the PCIe 3.0 lanes instead of what its using now the PCIe 2.0 lanes? Side Note: Yes i am 100% positive by checking the manufacturers specs of the NVMe drive im using as being a PCIe 3.0 x4/x1 Model as well as used Hardware Identification Software that also identifies it as PCIe 3.0 x4/x1 capable but again is only using the PCIe 2.0 x4 lanes to connect to the CPU or Chipset. I am unsure if the m.2 slot uses a direct connection to the CPU or uses the Chipset on this motherboard. The Chipset on the board is the AMD Promonoty 2 and the CPU type is the AM4 which I have an AMD Ryzen 7-1700 installed in my PC. I hope i have provided enough information as a background on what hardware is installed in my PC to help identify the answer to my question. I appreciate anyones help in advance as i know it takes time out of your day to find these answers and i have so far been unsuccessful during my searching online for this answer. If you need any other information from me i can gladly provide that and i also have screenshots i can include if that is possible to do here that will show the drive being shown as using PCIe 2.0 x4 but that it is actually meant to be used with PCIe 3.0, its just backwards compatible so that is why it is still working. I just would like to be able to access the increased transfer speeds of 8GT/s that pcie 3.0 can reach which is a decent increase from the 5 GT/s that its currently only able to reach due to the PCIe version being used by the drive. Thanks again

I believe the M.2 socket on your motherboard is SATA.  The HDD is SATA lll according to HP PartSurfer.
