question if this only plays dvds..wanting to see what i need to get an external drive for blu rays ???

Even on the HP Store website I cannot see any info about the ODD

I can see from the image that it has one, but it doesn't mention it.

In device manager, or in explorer is it called DVD RW or BD-ROM. If it's prefixed with BD then it's a Blu Ray.

You should be able to find a slim Blu Ray drive on ebay or Amazon or something. They all usually have the same connectors. Otherwise you could buy an external USB Blu Ray player/burner.
