HP Z8 G4 RCTO Base Model Workstation

Hello everyone,

I recently upgraded my HP Z8 G4 workstation with two new Intel Xeon Gold 6154 CPUs, each with a TDP of up to 200 watts. However, I’ve encountered some cooling issues. The stock CPU coolers in my HP Z8 G4 seem insufficient for these high-performance CPUs, as my system freezes during extreme stress tests. I had to limit the CPU performance to 80% in the power settings to prevent freezing.

The user manual lists these CPUs as valid options, but it appears that HP does not offer stronger heatsinks or case fans. I’m open to any suggestions to improve the cooling performance. I’m willing to purchase new components or even modify the system if necessary. Here are some specific questions I have:

Are there any third-party CPU coolers compatible with the HP Z8 G4 that can handle the 200W TDP of the Intel Xeon Gold 6154?

Can I install more powerful case fans to improve airflow? If so, which models are recommended?
Are there any software settings or BIOS configurations that could help manage the CPU temperatures more effectively?
Has anyone successfully modified their HP Z8 G4 for better cooling performance? If so, what modifications did you make?
Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!

Best regards
