How to increase the ROM size of my PC?

Hi @Udayan53,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Increasing the ROM (Read-Only Memory) size on your AIO (All-In-One) desktop PC is not possible in the traditional sense because ROM is a type of non-volatile memory used to store firmware or BIOS. This memory is fixed and cannot be expanded like RAM (Random Access Memory) or storage drives.

However, if you are referring to increasing the storage capacity (often mistakenly referred to as ROM by some users), you can do so by adding or upgrading the hard drive or SSD (Solid State Drive) on your PC. Here are the steps to upgrade your storage:

Determine the Type of Storage: Identify whether your AIO desktop uses a traditional HDD (Hard Disk Drive), an SSD, or both. Check the specifications in your user manual or on the manufacturer's website.

Choose the Right Storage Device:

  • For HDD: You can upgrade to a larger capacity HDD.
  • For SSD: You can upgrade to a larger capacity SSD, which offers faster performance compared to an HDD.
  • For Hybrid Storage: Some systems allow both HDD and SSD. You can add an SSD if you currently only have an HDD, or vice versa.

Backup Your Data: Before making any changes, ensure you back up all your important data to an external drive or cloud storage.

Open Your AIO Desktop:

  • Power off your PC and unplug it from the power source.
  • Remove the back panel or the specific section covering the storage drive. This step varies by model, so refer to your user manual for detailed instructions.

Replace or Add the Storage Device:

  • If replacing the existing drive, disconnect the old drive by removing any screws and gently disconnecting the cables.
  • Install the new drive by connecting the cables and securing it with screws.
  • If adding an additional drive, connect it to an available slot using the appropriate connectors (usually SATA cables for HDD/SSD).

Reassemble Your AIO Desktop: Once the new storage device is securely installed, close the back panel or section you opened.

Initialize and Format the New Drive:

  • Power on your PC and enter the BIOS/UEFI to ensure the new drive is recognized.
  • Boot into your operating system. For Windows, open Disk Management (type diskmgmt.msc in the Run dialog) and initialize the new drive.
  • Format the new drive and assign it a drive letter.

Restore Your Data: Transfer your backed-up data to the new drive if necessary.

If you need detailed instructions specific to your AIO desktop model, please provide the model number, and I can offer more precise guidance.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
